Bangor Hydro-Electric Company Offers Storm Safety Tips

Bangor, ME--Bangor Hydro-Electric Company is monitoring weather conditions closely and is prepared for possible outages.

Bangor Hydro urges customers to be ready for possible outages by locating flashlights with working batteries, keeping a battery-operated radio available with fresh batteries, making sure you have a supply of fresh water if you aren’t connected to a public water supply, making sure you have some non-perishable food on hand, and making sure secondary heating sources are in good working order.

"Our crews will be working hard over the next few days to minimize outages, but they are also dealing with difficult road conditions," said Bangor Hydro Communications Officer Susan Faloon.

Bangor Hydro delivers power more than 99.9 percent of the time, but power outages can occur, especially during severe weather conditions. Most power outages occur because power lines are brought down by wind and heavy snow.

"If you see a downed power line, do not touch or attempt to move it," Faloon said.

"We are fully staffed, but the phone lines do get busy," said Customer Service Manager Janis Piper. "The quickest way to report your outage is through our computerized telephone outage reporting system by entering your account number or the phone number of the outage location."

Customers may call Bangor Hydro’s Service Center to report a power outage, downed line or other power emergency at 1-800-440-1111. Updated outage information is available at www.bhe.com.
