Bangor Hydro and Maine Public Service are proud of our efforts which support our communities. Together with help from our parent company, Emera, more than one hundred non-profit organizations throughout Maine – and specifically within our service territories – are the beneficiaries of corporate funding each year. Past recipients of our assistance have included:

  • Bangor Symphony Orchestra
  • Big Brothers Big Sisters
  • Gulf of Maine Research Institute
  • Maine Children’s Cancer Program
  • Maine Potato Blossom Festival
  • Northern Maine Community College
  • United Way of Aroostook
  • United Way of Eastern Maine
  • University of Maine

...and many, many more.

Komen _RaceIn addition, our employees devote thousands of hours every year to charitable causes which are near and dear to their hearts, serving on boards and committees for Boy Scouts, Bangor Y, Maine Snowmobile Association, Bangor Humane Society, Ronald McDonald House, Homeless Services of Aroostook, and more. All told, between outright charitable donations, community sponsorships, employee volunteerism, and gifts-in-kind services, Bangor Hydro and Maine Public service donate more than $500,000 annually to worthy causes.

Our Beliefs on Charitable Giving

With so many worthwhile organizations in need of assistance, how do Bangor Hydro and Maine Public Service decide where to designate donations?

United  WayWe believe in contributing where we can truly make a difference – both with our time and our financial resources. We choose causes where we believe our impact will be a source of pride for our employees. We give where we live. And we want our employees to see the difference our contributions are making in the communities in which we live, work and play.

Areas of Support and How to ApplyHog Nots Team

The Bangor Hydro Electric Company-Maine Public Service Charitable Giving Program provides meaningful support to organizations and causes which have one of these focuses:

  • Educational
  • Healthcare
  • Humanitarian
  • Cultural

The Charitable Giving Program will not support religious activities; fundraisers or benefits for individuals; or graduation, prom or holiday parties. Please note: all requests must be made through our online application. Requests via other means will not be considered and all applications should be submitted at least six weeks prior to any event to facilitate processing.
