Bangor Hydro recognizes our responsibility to provide special services to customers with special needs. As a result, we offer the following programs:

TDD
Bangor Hydro Electric is equipped with TDD (Telecommunication Device for the Deaf) to put our hearing impaired customers in direct contact with our Customer Service Representatives. If you have a TDD, dial toll-free 1-800-559-0069 or 990-6969 in the Bangor area.

LifeLight
The LifeLight Program identifies residential customers who rely on electricity to operate medical equipment. LifeLight is designed to prevent the unnecessary or accidental disconnection of critical electric service.

While not a guarantee of uninterrupted service, LifeLight customers are alerted in advance to planned outages and receive every possible consideration in our restoration efforts in the event of extreme storms or unplanned outages.

If a LifeLight customer reports an outage, and power cannot be restored within an acceptable time frame (i.e., length of time the backup power can be maintained), the customer will be encouraged to seek assistance from available emergency services such as fire, police, hospital, etc.

To qualify, you must have a medical necessity that is supported by a statement from your doctor or other qualified health care professional. Typically, medical necessity is defined as a situation in which medical equipment is involved.

Bangor Hydro recommends backup power supplies be considered for the unexpected outages that occasionally occur. Consult a physician, a medical supply company or hospital social service about possible backup power supply; and be sure it is installed by a qualified electrician.

Radio Watch
Because Bangor Hydro vehicles are radio-equipped, our employees will report an emergency or a suspicious event to the appropriate authorities.

To learn more about any of these special services or about emergency planning preparation, contact Bangor Hydro's Customer Service Center at 1-800-499-6600. In the Bangor area, call 947-2414.
